The Dress Code and THE Dress

Many guests from out of town may be wondering "What should I wear?" When in Rome, one can do as the Romans do, but when in the Cosmic Hamlet, anything goes. I myself will be wearing a bridal dress, fashioned out of the (way-too-small) dress in which my mother was wedded 45 years ago. IF Bonita can make it work; she may prefer to start over, depending on how the fabric handles the kind of heavy-duty makeover we need to give it in order to make it fit. Now I know why brides generally prefer to marry BEFORE having children. It's all about fitting into the wedding dress, I suppose...
As far as you commoners (also known as guests) are concerned, there are more practical considerations to keep in mind. The wedding is being held out-of-doors in Alaska in August. This could mean several things; sunny weather in the 70's or 60's, cool weather in the 50's, or pouring rain in the 30's. There will be tents and firepits to gather around, music will continue regardless, and raincoats would be considered de rigeur. Some locals will be sporting modern and elegant dress, along with comfortable rainboots. Some will deign to wear a clean fleece and t-shirt with nothing more offensive than "Exxon Sucks" emblazoned across it. Some will come in disguise with wigs and sunglasses.
So what does this mean to you? Wear something snazzy, bring footwear that you can dance on the lawn in, and be prepared to cover up with many layers. And don't wear a bridal gown. That's my job.
