time is running out...

The dress is in several pieces, the shoes are in the mail, the haircuts have yet to materialize, and the deck is half built. Wedding is in less than 2 weeks. Vows need to be written, and what about ordering seafood? The list goes on and on... Oh, yeah, and about that marriage license: it appears that Dale and I will have to apply together and at the same time!!! We have trouble being in the same place at the same time, so this date at the courthouse will truly prove to be a challenge.

But so it seems to go. People have especially been nudging us to register somewhere. Dale has been telling people that we are registered at Sam's club and Walmart. Ha. Ha. I tell people we could use gift certificates to Small Potatoes Lumber, Spenard Builders Supply, and Home Depot. Everyone tells us that we are NO FUN! But what can we do? We have everything we need to have a home together. Since no one gives you presents for living together, we have become accustomed to scrounging for everything we need at garage sales and the dump. That means that pretty much everything you might buy for a home in lovely new condition would be welcome, and that we are not very picky. I promise that you will see right away when you get here that matching dishes, bowls, wine glasses, serving platters, BBQ grills, candlesticks, art, bedding, towels, juicers, and avocado green appliances will easily replace the crap we have, if you so desire to gift us with any of those or the other kinds of wedding gifts people have fun shopping for. We are really just focussing on sprucing up this place for a fabulous party, and we hope that our NO FUN attitude regarding wedding gifts doesn't get in the way of our VERY FUN attitude regarding Food, Dancing and Celebration!!! Please relax, don't worry, and have a homebrew. That's what we'll be doing.
And now, back to the preparations...

Bridesmaidzilla and Virginal Bridal Tea

"SAVE THE DATE"
August 7
7:00 pm
Two Sisters Bakery
Come as the bridesmaid you've always wanted to be. Pull out those "fabulous" bridesmaid dresses you've been longing to wear and let's celebrate our friend Sharon in Homer style. If you have more than 1 dress that needs a night out bring it along, not everyone has these things stashed in their closets. There will be plenty of time and opportunity to get dressed at the Bakery. There will be some food and drink to start the evening off then we'll be heading out on the town, wherever our dresses may take us.

The Dress Code and THE Dress

Many guests from out of town may be wondering "What should I wear?" When in Rome, one can do as the Romans do, but when in the Cosmic Hamlet, anything goes. I myself will be wearing a bridal dress, fashioned out of the (way-too-small) dress in which my mother was wedded 45 years ago. IF Bonita can make it work; she may prefer to start over, depending on how the fabric handles the kind of heavy-duty makeover we need to give it in order to make it fit. Now I know why brides generally prefer to marry BEFORE having children. It's all about fitting into the wedding dress, I suppose...
As far as you commoners (also known as guests) are concerned, there are more practical considerations to keep in mind. The wedding is being held out-of-doors in Alaska in August. This could mean several things; sunny weather in the 70's or 60's, cool weather in the 50's, or pouring rain in the 30's. There will be tents and firepits to gather around, music will continue regardless, and raincoats would be considered de rigeur. Some locals will be sporting modern and elegant dress, along with comfortable rainboots. Some will deign to wear a clean fleece and t-shirt with nothing more offensive than "Exxon Sucks" emblazoned across it. Some will come in disguise with wigs and sunglasses.
So what does this mean to you? Wear something snazzy, bring footwear that you can dance on the lawn in, and be prepared to cover up with many layers. And don't wear a bridal gown. That's my job.

Wedding Blog Blah Blah Blah...

Welcome to the wedding blog for Dale and Sharon's wedding, August 15th, 2010. This can be a great way for everyone traveling to Alaska to read and post comments, hopefully allowing everyone to coordinate their outfits and such. I'm sure it will be ever so useful for that. Also, you can read any important information I feel compelled to post, like changes in venue, dates, times, grooms (just kidding, Dale) and menus.
OK? OK!
